How to Satisfy Your Wanderlust When You Can’t Travel or Leave Your Home

We are in trying times right now and no one really knows what they should do to stay happy when they can’t do much of anything at all.  However, there are so many ways you can be creative and satisfy your wanderlust when you can’t travel or really leave your home.  So, don’t sit there in your living room being bored…. Get those creative juices flowing!

7 Ways to Be Creative to Satisfy Your Wanderlust When You Can’t Travel or Really Leave Your Home

1. Take a Virtual Vacation

You do not need to leave your home in order to see some amazing destinations and attractions from around the world! Take this time to do a little research for all the attractions that offer virtual tours of their facilities. One of the most well-known virtual tours is the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam. You can simply go to their website and with a couple of keystrokes, you’ll be looking at all the different rooms where Anne and her family and friends lived during the Holocaust. Many zoos are currently offering virtual tours, or at least cameras, so you can look at the animals.

2. Plan Dream Vacations

While you may not be able to leave your home and start traveling just yet, it doesn’t mean that you cannot plan a few dream vacations. Simply think of all those destinations you would love to visit someday and then see what there is to do in those areas. You can easily discover popular attractions, as well as the not-so-popular ones. There are no rules here, so do what makes you happy, whether that includes writing the information down or simply tucking it away in the back of your mind.

3. Spend a Day Pretending You Are in a Different Destination

Since you are currently spending more time at home, you have plenty of time to pretend you are somewhere else. Choose a country, or even a city, and spend the entire day doing activities you might do if you were vacationing in that area. Do a little research to see what is available in the destination you choose and don’t forget to plan out a traditional meal or two to enjoy.

Italy is one of the first places that comes to mind, and while you won’t be able to visit there anytime soon, you can still look at different attractions online, enjoy a little gelato, and make a meal of either pizza or pasta complete with homemade Italian bread.

4. Devour International Cuisine

As difficult as it can be to get to the store during trying times, you can eat tons of international cuisine if you plan ahead. Simply figure out the meals you want to try, go grab as many of the ingredients as you can, and enjoy a traditional dish from somewhere far away each day. The kids can do art projects that relate to that destination, create the flag for the country on construction paper, and even make posters to share what that day’s dish is and what is in it.

5. Look Through Those Digital Albums

You know all those past vacations you have taken?? Well, pull out those digital albums, or actual photo albums, and peruse all those photographs! Relive the memories of every trip you have taken and use those pictures as inspiration for future trips. This is an excellent time to make a couple of memory books to place on the coffee table, so people can enjoy them with you in the future.

6. Order New Luggage and Travel Accessories

Even though you won’t be using them for a while, this is an excellent time to order some new luggage and travel accessories online. I recommend going through all your travel gear, and even hiking and other outdoor gear, and checking to see what needs to be replaced and what you might be missing. Then place the order and within days, your new items will be delivered. You can then put them in a safe place until you are ready to use them again.
