Why Expats Choose To Retire In The Philippines

Research says that around 50% of expats today find much more fulfillment in the islands of the Philippines than anywhere else in the world. In just six months, expats say that the Philippines has felt more or less like a home than a foreign country to them. This could primarily be because of the Filipino people’s unwavering warmth and hospitality paired with their vibrant and friendly local cultures and traditions.

Most, if not all, expats find the Philippines an endearing country. According to them, Filipinos have such an affectionate, indulgent, and supportive nature, and you’re about to find out why.

Why Expats Choose To Retire In The Philippines - Wellington World Travels

1. Affordable Cost of Living

Quality doesn’t always have to come cheap, especially if you’re in the Philippines. This country is actually reported to be a rare gem in Asia because of its affordable cost of living. In a day, you can already eat a three-course lunch that costs roughly around two dollars. Yes, two US dollars! And we’re not talking about the plain and dry type of meal. It’s actually one full meal complete with rice, meat, and vegetables on the side! More than anything, Filipino cuisine actually features and offers some of the best and tastiest food you’ll ever have in your entire life.

Other than the food, you also get to worry less about public transportation and accommodation as these are also some of the lowest in the Southeast Asian region and all over the world. Different needs and services also come in cheap, like getting a haircut, house help, or having your nails done. On top of all that, the same is true for when you need to go grocery shopping. At the end of the day, you get to even save a budget for other fees, wants, travel, or leisure.

2. Home Away From Home

Condominium units are a common sight in most urban cities in the Philippines. In recent years, a lot of real estate developers have developed a number of condos in the city center and even in remote areas.

One example is this for-sale property in Batangas that usually caters to retirees and expats coming from different parts of the world. Freia is one of the most prized properties of Hamilo Coast. The private beach resort has world-class features, facilities, and amenities available that will help you make the most out of your stay. This condominium unit also offers various conveniences of modern city living. At the same time, you also get to experience the laid back life through lush parks and pocket gardens where you can stroll, meditate, do yoga, and workout, just to name a few. The cherry on top of it all is having to wake up to the beautiful nature views of either the sea or the mountains.

3. Terrific Beaches

Having been home to 7,641 islands, the Philippines is, without a doubt, a perfect destination for those who love going to beaches. The country has enough islands and beaches for when you want to relax and unwind for a bit. You have such excellent choices, and that includes Boracay, Palawan, Batangas, Siargao, and many more.

The Philippines is a tropical country that has more or less summery weather all year round. With expats getting used to and tired of the cold weather, the Philippines is the best place to be, as you’ll be in for more treats than what you expect.

4. Unique Culture

The Filipino culture was shaped by varying influences, mainly because of the different colonization periods. But all in all, it has flourished into one distinct and unique culture yet in the most charming way.

The Filipino people are always happy to help. You can ask them for favors, and they’ll be more than glad to assist you. If anything, Filipinos are known to smile most – if not all – the time. When calamities hit the country, you’ll be left wondering how the locals stay resilient and still put on a smile on their face despite the disasters it left. Join them for dinner, and you get the best parts of the chicken. Visit their homes, and they’ll bring out their most beautiful plates and silverware.
